Oscar Isaac with the blue contacts going full psycho King brings a reality to the story that I didn't expect, and really highlights the cruelty needed to maintain order back in this time, which the cartoon of my childhood definitely doesn't cover! Eat the rich, acab, all that... But in the bad ass countryside, making this feel more like a period piece than piece of our fiction. The colors create a mood that the story pairs really well with, feeling suffocated by the environment as well as the crown, and the characters navigating and surviving their surroundings gives the impression that self-reliance against all odds is an act of empowerment that no form of government can take away from its people. Self-governance for the win! Recommend if you like Russell Crowe kicking ass and taking wives!
