Just wholesome. It’s basically a deconstruction of the ritual of marriage that also fully embraces it as a demonstration of love. It’s not the perfect idealized fantasy of Meet Me in St. Louis but it isn’t a takedown either. It’s somewhere in the middle, and that’s still in the lovely territory. I just love the way Minelli uses the geography of his sets to establish character dynamica. His houses are always so full of life. Awesome how this film feels colorful despite being in B&W as well. Staging is fantastic as always too. And the ending is just marvellous.
