The Substitute
5/10 ☆☆☆☆ || Wow that was... something

Well, I was writing my review and the page reloaded on me 🙃

Anyway, this movie was okay.

((Spoilers))

I wish it took a different approach to the trope: mercenary becomes substitute and changes the school.

I really didn't like how they made it to where the principal was doing drug deals and a high school student was in on it.

It's kinda funny bc it reminded me of Freedom Writer's at the beginning... until I realized it was going to be more about action and stopping the bad guys. Bro bc so many people died 😭 and all but one of Shale's homeboys died too

I really thought this was gonna be a story about him reforming the students to be better, and using his fighting skills to show them he doesn't mess around. (Like this one Webtoon called "Get Schooled" but that lowkey got canceled for being racist so we don't mention it 😬)

I guess I should just go watch Freedom Writer's then ✌️

Cuban drug processing plant… they blew up a legitimate pharmaceutical facility, right?

I think I’d only seen parts of this as I definitely didn’t remember that it goes full on mercenary squad shootout at the end. Action’s a little slack but it’s a decent time. There are just some better options for school-set action and/or inner city school drama.
