It may not be as popular abroad compared to other Soviet films, but watching it in its entirety it is clear because it has been one of the most popular internally, it has many reasons to be so.

It is enough to mention among those reasons the charisma of his characters: Sukhov's humor and spirit hoping to return from the war one day. The timely and honorable sayid. The hopeless former border officer Verechagin, isolated and trapped in a past that has disappeared, manages to be very memorable through his dramatic nature. The fierceness of the bandit Abdullah and the innocence of his younger wife Gyulchatai are clear examples of the memorable nature of his character.

The comic scenes that are very subtle and of that typical light humor of the Soviet era manage to smile despite their lightness, altering with a drama that is equally effective in the film, some ironic phrases about the revolution and the conflict in Asia Eastern is worth listening to. The allusions to American cowboy cinema are also very funny. In Suma, the cinema of war in East Asia or Ostern has its best exponent in this film.
