a nice found family plot with poor writing and pacing.
Tw: SA, violence, sexism
i really liked the idea and main character. he was sweet mostly and i did like seeing him and the mother bond. and he himself was the most well written, all the other characters suffered horribly. antagonist i couldnt care about less and his motives are still pretty unclear. the mother was just that, a grieving stereotype, she lost her son and hates her husband up until the end. the cop was a mourning father but also a huge sexist, snarky towards his wife and gossiping about a teenager for being promiscuous. tracy suffers like the mother, feeling like shes been written by someone whose never met a woman before, poor girl has some issues we arent even allowed to know more about and "copes" with sex. clay is a repressed gay who hates himself thanks to his dad, attempted to assault tracy but i think the writers didnt intend for him to come off that way? no ones upset about it/questions if its even considered sa cuz she "asks for it". tracy also only mentions it once before its swept under the rug. as i said, horrible writing. the movie is pretty to look at and i liked the music. loved the ending. i think the pacing and characters suffered and theres two unnecessary sa scenes. one as mentioned super confusing too.
i do like the idea and think ill just build my own world with it. do the s
characters justice (the idea of a love triangle between rufus, clay and tracy is great. again if clay wasnt written so confusingly.) (theyre poly and okay in my book). isaac out. or not maybe ill watch another movie tonight. probably not.
