Okay, hear me out.
As a huge fan of 90s neo-noirs, I must admit that Romeo Is Bleeding is probably the closest in atmosphere to the original noir films of the 40s and 50s – mostly the 50s. I loved the jazzy soundtrack, the sleazy overall vibe, and the almost complete absence of contemporary technology. That’s how most noirs would look without the Hays Code.
At the same time, I have to admit that the actual plot is questionable, and even mostly good acting couldn’t save it.
It just occupies a very specific niche.
