Master Liu and Master Law are rival masters of Shaolin style kung fu, and Wudang style sword fighting, running schools in the same city. Their top students, Chao Fung-wu, and Hung Jun-kit, are actually close friends. After observing the two students fighting at a brothel, the Lord determines that the two styles are dangerous, and he must learn both.

Why we need to care about anything that happens, I’m not sure. But what happenings! Such Kung-fu. Many nutty moves. Looking extremely difficult to do. I’m getting work out pains just looking at it. More honest than a Jean Luc Godard film, and about as substantial.

i wish there was a better restoration for this film since there’s not much talk about it. i’d call this an underrated gem. gordon liu’s directorial debut garners inspiration from his previous works as an actor. the influence is strongly seen from 36th chambers of shaolin and martial club at least in terms of storytelling. there are some generic problems like how conflicts are carried and i’ve seen it over and over before which becomes repetitive in these martial arts films. but the beautiful combination of swordplay and hand to hand combat is extraordinary to watch. as well as the dynamic between the two friends and it creates a pretty satisfying ending. the idea of competition is great for proving skill but unnecessary for selfish reasons, they explore that need to understand. thank you rza for making this film known to me.
