shit lowkey got me perked up in the middle but they were doing so much reaching with the plot. ive been letting this one in marinade for a bit. But its ultimately disappointing because carl franklin is a good director when it comes to the all the other aspects… but the plot man cmon 😭

I had a lot of fun with this one. Watching Denzel's character slick-talk and scheme his way out of being caught was so tense and exciting, and Eva Mendes giving him those looks, noticing he's acting strange and moving differently while also being his soon-to-be ex-wife, makes the dynamic more interesting. Sanna Lathan is also very good at being mysterious and not knowing what she is after. Then you have John Billingsley playing comedic relief and the best friend/partner you can have to back you up. All this makes for a thrilling, underrated gem in Denzel's filmography.
