Mask of Light wasn’t half bad for a direct to DVD kid’s animated movie based on a toy, but Legends of Metru-Nui actually slaps a lot more!
It definitely feels pretty similar to the Star Wars Prequels, namely Attack of the Clones, but I actually think it makes it even more of a vibe to watch. It’s cool seeing a team that is LEARNING to operate as a team and fails time and time again versus the established team dynamic from the first movie. Each character seems fleshed out more and better written than before, and it actually attempts to not be super shallow this time around, thematically speaking.
Again, very nostalgic for these movies and didn’t expect to rewatch these. But now I feel obligated to watch the final two movies. They’re a lot of fun and I feel like people were way harder on them than they should’ve been. This is pretty damn good for a straight to DVD kids film, and I don’t blame 8 year old me for watching it all the time from Blockbuster or on Cartoon Network.
