A pretty tight noir with a very nice story and some great performances. Kiss of Death was shot on location in New York City, there was even an information card at the end of the opening credits to confirm this. I do love a true location filmed film, especially a noir or neo-noir because it really adds onto the grit and depth. The noir genre is becoming a very comforting place for me, everything has a slightly tinge of familiarity while still having a unique outlook on the beautiful style. This one was pretty great, a punchy look on the tight shackles crime holds criminals with, unable to escape due to fear and reputation. Even when family is on the line it’s still a difficult decision to rat out your fellow criminals. Richard Wildmark’s performance in this was absolutely electric, his gleefully cruel and unpredictable nature really energised the whole film. Victor Mature’s performance was also very solid and quite emotionally charged at times. I did find the plot to drag ever so slightly but that ending really tied it all up, I love when a noir ends unheralded.
