❝You know what it is? Stupidity, greed or pride that makes people like us kill each other? We should be taking over the Ford Motor company instead of shooting each other. But I understand what the problem is: it's people like you. You cannot be trusted, not trustworthy. It is the flaw in the criminal character.❞

The Funeral is a gangster film with none of the expected bells and whistles. Instead, all you get is grit and ruthlessness, and as Jean says during the film, "They're criminals, and there's absolutely nothing romantic about it." Undoubtedly the best parts of this entire thing are the two Chrises; Christopher Walken was stone-cold and calculating, which Chris Penn gave me huge Joe Pesci in Goodfellas vibes, only way more depressed. I'll admit, I wasn't always able to follow the plot, but I was still pretty engaged, and that ending shocked me back into consciousness. I'm not the biggest fan of gangster films like this, but I still enjoyed watching it, and if you like this genre I'd recommend giving it a go.
→ film-related note: has any man ever looked as good as benicio del toro in this film? him in that grey pinstripe suit, hat and slicked back hair is definitely in my top looks of his 🫶
