This makes sense as a Sam Raimi movie, but it's baffling as a Coen Bros movie. How do you go from writing Blood Simple, to this, and then come right back with Raising Arizona?

Raimi's direction really saves this from being an absolute dumpster fire, and it makes me wish he had done more live-action Looney Tunes style movies. This is so colorful, creative, and campy that I can't help but love it, as bad as the script and most of the acting are. There's a few good jokes, but for the most part the script is extremely amateur, and the actors are all hamming it up, but not achieving the comedic effect they're aiming for at all. The best part of the movie is easily the exterminators, Arthur and Faron. They feel like they were plucked right out of a Rocky and Bulwinkle knockoff and I wish the movie was more focused on their antics, rather than the really poorly concieved and performed romcom A/B-plot. Those maniacs are responsible for all of the best set pieces, both slapstick and horror, especially Faron, who is truly menacing throughout, but especially in the two most iconic scenes in the film, the literal rug pulling sequence and the doorway chase. Incredible filmmaking and effects on display there as well.

However this happened, I'm just glad Raimi and the Coens got all of this stupid bullshit out of their systems so they could go on to make their true live-action cartoon masterpieces, namely Evil Dead 2 and Raising Arizona

Got the same vibes from watching this as I did I Married A Strange Person, just too stuffed with no rook to breathe. A straight man wouldve been nice, or just a single likable person who wasnt annoying as hell. Honestly, kinda the same vibes from Beyond The Valley Of The Doll's.
