Knocked my socks off. As familiar as I was with Andy Griffith, I didn’t know he had this in him. He is flying off the screen here, yet somehow never feels like he’s overacting.
It’s a 2 hour film that feels like it’s 3 years. Which I mean fully as a compliment because of how much story they’re able to pack in here. With its satisfying beginning making way subtlety into true horror.
Best movie I’ve seen this year so far, one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time.

Not the best viewing experience (it sorta lagged) but the themes are great! Lonesome Rhodes is one of the most fascinating characters I’ve seen from 50s Cinema and the premise is still as important and prevalent today as it was back in 1957. Can’t believe Rhodes isn’t a bigger part of the cultural zeitgeist today because the performance and influence on contemporary film is very apparent. Great film!

Watching this through a modern lens had me thinking about influencer culture, Internet personality cancellations, performative identity, the cult of celebrity, social media (specifically TikTok). It holds up SO well.
