Things I learned from the movie super fly:
1. If your friends/business partners dont offer you coke when you meet. You Did something wrong.
2. A plan will go wrong no matter how perfect.
3. The soundtrack is a banger.
Super fly one of my first blaxploitation movies with a male protagonist. Shaft is a all time classic but I'm more of a fan of coffy, cleopatra Jones and anything with Pam Grier. That being said super fly had that cool factor. The movie looked great and I loved that 70s vibe. As for the main character named Youngblood Priest was entertaining.
I think the movie lacked some action. It's definitely a more talkative movie compared to coffy. I did like the scenes and how the story progressed but it did start to feel repetitive after a while. So it definitely needed to get some cool action scenes.
The story is entertaining. It follows Priest as he excecutes a plan to get out of the life of a dealer. His plan is cool to follow but the same problem with the action rears its head. The scenes just start to feel repetitive near the end. As for the ending, I do like the realistic angle it takes, it's just not climatic.
The characters are quite entertaining. Priest looked very cool. He was the focus while the other characters weren't the most developed. I think he was the best character and drove the movie. As for thr others, they were fine but felt like standard blaxploitation characters.
The soundtrack is a total banger. The best part of the movie is driving around the city with the soundtrack. The look and vibe are great too. So yeah, this soundtrack can definitely be my pusher.
Super fly is a fun, cool and entertaining blaxploitation movie. It has its flaws but the soundtrack and Priest carry the movie. So I had a good time.
