It is both genuinely amazing and kind of disappointing that this 1940s dog movie has more beautiful cinematography than most movies made in 2026.

Bit weepy and not my thing. Alas, I am not a child in the 1940’s. They do have that dog doing some crazy shit tho. Elizabeth Taylor is unsurprisingly a very captivating child actor.

Lassie’s actor had a higher salary than Elizabeth Taylor’s. Talk about being outshined by a Collie!
Lassie was my second favorite dog star during my childhood (The first was Benji). The 90’s Lassie film was my most watched Lassie film, but I believe I must’ve watched this film at least once or twice. I’m honestly shocked that this film has less than 10K watches. I thought it was more popular.
It’s a very straightforward family film. Nostalgia aside, Pal's performance as Lassie was great and the cinematography earned its Oscar nomination. It’s not an outstanding film, but I’d say it has aged kinda well.
