“Don’t count on it- Butthead.”
This is a film that’s meant to be rewatched; several times at that. I’ve watched Society around five times now and I notice something new each time. It’s a brilliant piece of satire, that’s not for the faint of heart. There’s a lot of themes here, and scenes that will likely turn many people away from it, which is understandable. That’s exactly the point. It’s meant to make you uncomfortable. This film is NOT for everyone, but I am definitely the target audience.
It’s so sick, twisted, and funny. The violence being shown on screen is played for laughs, but in the sense that you’re looking in on something you’re not supposed to see. Even the music is unsure of if it wants to stay around to watch or not. The shunting is truly one of the most vile things ever put to screen. Screaming Mad George did such a phenomenal job bringing the scene to life, so much so that it makes my stomach churn each time i watch it. It’s a perfect blend of practical effects and strong, quippy writing.
Moral of the story: Always let me pick the movie for movie night! 🍿🎥
