A really terrific crime noir flick that’s exceptionally stylish and actually rather chilling at moments. Many of the films elements are pretty classic for a noir film, it’s sleek and gritty with a lovely edge of glamour that works really well with this era of film. The villain of this film Mr Brown, is a ruthless and smooth talking businessman whose danger is seemingly inevitable to the police. I found it really interesting how prevalent music and sound is in many of the films scenes, like the scene where Mr Brown tortured the lieutenant with a very loud drum solo and a deaf person’s earpiece; also I loved the scene where the deaf guy’s earpiece is taken out when he’s executed, surrounding the film in a very eerie silence. Overall this was a fantastic noir, I loved the romance aspect of it and just the overall ruthlessness of Mr Brown.
