Anthony Bourdain said this is one of the most realistic movies involving a restaurant, and I genuinely couldn’t agree more. This took the brutal side of the culinary world, mixed it with the even more brutal mafia underworld and created something magical. You get to see these characters become fully fledged out, and as you go from each of the subplots (Fitzgerald, the bartender/John Corbett, Udo’s desire to make the restaurant his, and Duncan’s gambling problem), you understand what makes the restaurant industry in my opinion, the most interesting and people-centric industry out there. Absolutely wonderful. Everyone needs to watch this. ASAP.
