Esther Blodgett is just another starry-eyed farm kid trying to break into the movies. Waitressing at a Hollywood party, she catches the eye of her idol Norman Maine, is sent for a screen test, and before long attains stardom as newly minted Vicki Lester. She and Norman marry, though his career soon dwindles to nothing due to his chronic alcoholism.

i absolutely loved this film. i watched the judy garland version first and tbh i thought this one was way better. janet gaynor is so adorable and im so glad i finally got to see her speak lmao since i’ve only seen her silent films. it just proves how talented she is because she transitioned from silent films to talkies so flawlessly. her red hair is so beautiful and i love that this was in technicolor. this was just so beautiful and heartbreaking. esther’s grandma was an icon
