The film's just fun the whole way through. It has that cozy 80s feeling where everything feels simple and genuine, especially the toy store scenes. You can tell why this film became such a classic. But what I liked most is that underneath all the comedy, it’s actually kinda sad in a quiet way. Josh spends the whole film wanting to be older, only to realize adulthood is stressful, confusing, and honestly not as exciting as kids imagine it to be.
I also liked how Josh ends up being better than most adults around him just because he still knows how to enjoy things. Everyone else is so serious all the time while he’s just genuinely excited about toys and life in general.
The ending hit harder than I expected too. Instead of turning into some perfect fantasy, it reminds you that being a kid is something you don’t really appreciate until it’s gone. It’s funny, wholesome, a little emotional, and probably one of the most comforting 80s movies I’ve watched.
