this was a very uncomfortable watch, for many reasons. but i still appreciated it. it reminded me of Somersault (2004) with its approach to female sexuality and a coming-of-age narrative. but while that film feels genuinely empathetic with how it portrays emotional and sexual intimacy, this film just feels distant. that's the only way i can describe it. the family drama is reminiscent of The 400 Blows but a lot more insufferable. it even ends with a freeze frame.
i can still understand what the film is going for. and i think a lot of the negative reviews are people misinterpreting the film's intentions. but that being said, i'm not going to waste my time defending it.
