I remember the first time I watched this I was so shocked I didn't know what to think, but almost right after I felt the need to rewatch it. It definitely portrays the topic in an overtly exploitative way but then again it's a pink film, there's no interest in portraying this delicately. With that the exploration of the themes is left a bit sparse and most of the runtime is taken up by long (but visually interesting) scenes. Despite this I think it's well made, there's a very strong vision and beautiful cinematography.
Like for example the play with contrasts was really nice. Especially how the basement had a suffocating and musty atmosphere and the attic playroom is more sleek and ethereal. Serika's outfits were so cute too.
One of the things that really bothered me on the first watch was that it's almost like an anti rape revenge film with most of it consisting of the protagonist being degraded even further. It definitely makes this film stand out. I wouldn't say it's a bad thing entirely though, most rape revenge movies are focused on showing the bad guys get killed to satisfy the audience, but at what cost? Even after killing the captor, the protagonist most definitely continues to suffer but films like this don't usually focus on that. I think it's interesting to see this film take the route of exploring the aftermath instead.
In a way this feels like the ultimate pink film with the repeating elements in the genre: rape, s&m and psychological themes being at the center of the story, but explored further. It's almost like a goodbye to the genre since it's pretty much been dying out.
