Just sort of meh
There was a pretty cool dream sequence with great use of color and sound, but outside of that, the film is mostly forgettable. The acting isn't too bad, and the interactions between Roderick and Philip are enjoyable enough to watch. Additionally, practical fire effects are always a joy to watch, not often in film anymore that you really get to see stuff burn like that.
As for negatives, the makeup at times feels like seeing a stage actor's makeup up close; by 1960, I feel this shouldn't be an issue. There are really not too many major issues with the film, but as previously mentioned, I don't see this one being very memorable.
Overall, I don't see myself coming back to give it a second chance, not anytime soon at least. I wouldn't recommend this unless you're looking for a quick 80-minute experience; otherwise, you'd be better off elsewhere.
