Am I crazy for saying that this reminded me a crazy lot of David Lynch? This is how I would imagine low budget Lynch films– this how’d I imagine Lynch’s debut films would be like if he wasn’t dropping masterpiece after masterpiece instead.
The journey of the two protagonists reminded me of that in Blue Velvet: a young couple starts an investigation into a mysterious person– as a follow up of a strange event. But it doesn’t take long until they’re woven into a spiral of unexplainable events with catastrophic consequences. At its core– it’s in my ways comparable to Lost Highway. Centering around themes as identity that makes you question reality.
However how much the Lynchian style amazed me– it’s a terribly made film (as the rating suggests). Okay, terrible might be a bit harsh but it undeniably had many flaws. The acting was horrible, poorly written characters (the wizard was unforgettable tho), and just not well made. Like I said– a low budget lynch film– great at its core but poorly executed.
