“i like dick”
this is just a really campy offbeat style teen flick from the early 2000s, about a popular girl who accepts a french exchange student, but what she doesn’t know is this girl pushes her off her pedestal and becomes the new queen bee of this texan high school. i think the humour is definitely hit or miss, you either love or it, and i 100% loved it. i just love the really over the top taboo substance of humour. it’s a very unique film, it does its own thing and kind of ignores other teen tropes, it just focuses on an overly camp atmosphere. both the leads play their characters incredibly well, jane mcgregor really pulls of the snobby popular cheerleader, starla was such an iconic character within this film, she was just so enjoyable and always spouted out an iconic one liner, piper perabo is arguably the best part of the film, i just loved genevieve, a seemingly innocent french girl but in actual fact she’s pls planning starlas revenge, drugging her and planting knives in her backpack to try and strike revenge and replace her status within the school. the two main characters were just so joyous and made amazing tv, they having an amazing amount of chemistry, a catty dynamic and both actors hold such a comedic flair. the concept of this film is just not only unique but it’s also so engaging. the idea of a texan girl pretending to be french to sneak into the girl who ruined her life’s house, she seems like an average french citizen but she sabotages her counterpart, teaching her profanity in french and setting her up for jail, this is basically the plot of mean girls, just with a lower budget. but atleast it’s influential! i love the unconventional and somewhat rude approach of teen comedy flicks, i can actively say i’ve never seen something quite like this before.. there’s amazing one liners and is just a nice watch to be entertained : but you don’t need to really think, it’s straight up in your face, some may find the pacing slow or the humour inconsistent, but i adore this film, for its homoerotic undertones and an over the top plot.
