“I don’t feel I have to wipe out everyone, Tom. Just my enemies”
One of the greatest of all time solely for the dread and emptiness you feel during that final scene with the Corleone boys around the table, and how Michael is left all alone at the end.
The scale of this film is genuinely insane. Telling the story of Vito’s rise and noble actions alongside Michael’s ruthlessness. This is better than the original in my opinion. Pacino really gets to shine here but Duvall is still amazing and I want to see more of his work. I do wish there was more of Diane Keaton in this because she’s so good but it makes sense narratively that she’s not in this. Kay is an afterthought in Michael’s world.
Michael tries desperately to replicate the family values that his father lived by but his attempts are hollow. It’s insane to see the difference between Vito and Michael.
3 hours and 20 minute long movie by the way. At some point I checked my watch and it felt like it had been an hour but it had been two. Actually insane how this flies by.
Too many people say The Godfather’s overrated. It’s right where it’s meant to be.
