Surprised that this is often lumped into film noir because it really isn't, it's just a melodrama based on an Odets play about a working class love triangle. It feels very contemporaneous with something like Streetcar Named Desire. The actors were all quite strong, especially considering these characters aren't necessarily the most likable in the world. Definitely need to revisit, possibly with more background on the Odets play, because I get the impression you really needed to be seeped into this world and characters more than I necessarily expected.
