My first Marilyn Monroe watch! This film was amazingly done, excellently paced and beautifully acted. Marilyn is amazing as Nell, and throughout the story you are really drawn to her as a character.
While the idea of mental illness, especially in the early 1950s, wasn’t exactly perceived well (either played for a laugh or treated extremely badly), this film does a great job of capturing this kind of thing both empathetically and with nuance. Showing that while Nell does ultimately face consequences at the end of the film for her actions, she is still treated with empathy by the characters and the narrative.
Also usually in films such as this, I never really connect with the male leads or find them very memorable, but I found that Jed is a very interesting character, and while I didn’t like him much at first, he grew on me overtime (especially with his character development, slay king!)
Amazing thriller, 100% would watch again!!!
