I've watched Sivaji so many times in my life, but it hits the same every time (maybe because it's a childhood classic).
It's a very typical masala film that encompasses a bit of everything, but what makes it so special is Rajinikanth; I can't imagine any other actor being able to pull off the titular role. He has a certain flair that permeates through the entire film, and it feels like the role was written around him, rather than him adapting to play the role. The first half is a lot of exposition and comedy, setting up the stage for the grittier (and better) second half. As I said, it's a very typical rags-to-riches tale that Rajini is associated with and has done so many times, and yet it's still awesome. The villain (played by Suman) is properly intimidating, which can be rare, but overall the cast and their acting is pretty good. I love the visuals, especially the sets and costumes used in the songs (which are great), and the cinematography and camerawork are really good quality.
I feel like Sivaji is one of the last good movies Rajini's been in, and I hope Coolie is at least better than some of his recent releases.
