The celebration of the 50th anniversary of “Capitol-Insurance” is due – that's what the bosses thought. All employees are invited to join the party in a hotel. However, rumors say the company's not doing very well. To avoid unemployment due to the possible shutdown of the smaller branch office the only option is to move to the headquarters. Now that's the ultimate challange for Stromberg, who is notoriously trying to be the example of a department manager, gathering all of his employees behind him.

rating for the series: 4,5 stars
and the film: 4 stars
the series: to give a brief introduction: stromberg-the series is the german localization of the british tv show the office. i didn’t watch the british version but the american and while the first season (generally low ranking amongst fans) has a similar cringe and negative feel to it, the seasons that followed were all more positive and made the characters more likeable. this localization however often felt more like a drama sometimes. the mockumentary aspect is still there throughout, even in the movie and the show is still pretty funny. but still many negative things happen. this is probably because of the characters, which all have their flaws. the main character bernd stromberg is the much worse version of an old politically incorrect white german man. he is manipulative, incompetent but still persuasive, racist, sexist, abusive… the actor of his is the german actor christoph maria herbst, who i’ve only known for playing the same role in every movie. but his performance for this series is near to perfect. especially the bowling episode shows his potential as an actor. the other colleagues range from the sometimes childish, hedonistic and incompentent ulf, to his love interest tanja who is more caring especially when it comes to “ernie”/berthold who is often bullied by his coworkers. this diverse set of unusual characters oftentimes create very funny situations, which are mostly the culmination of every plot of the episode, because everybody always does wrong things etc. generally i don’t like german comedy, but the show is so unusual in its approach to comedic storytelling, so that i was hooked from the first episode. in the end i can say, that the series is one of the, if not the best german series, that i’ve seen
the film:
the could be seen as a better produced and longer episode of the tv show. it also serves as a conclusion to the show (a second movie is in the works now, so not really #capitalism). the movie had many moments, where i had to laugh out loud, which doesn’t happen very often, especially when i’m watching german movies. the plot is well done and we see many old characters. but what really struck me was the ad placement of the müller milchreis. it makes it seem as if the whole show is an ad for this shit 😭.
conclusion: the whole stromberg universe is definetly worth checking out, also for people, who’ve lost their hope in german tv and films. there is still hope: papa macht das schon

ich hab jetzt die serie durch und mir danach den film gleich gegönnt und ich liebe stromberg, ich finde das ist eine der witzigsten serien überhaupt und der film war ein richtig super abschluss
ich liebe schauspieler die extrem viel mit mimik arbeiten und christoph maria herbst ist in dieser hinsicht einfach ein gott, definitiv und ohne frage für immer mein lieblings deutscher schauspieler, ich bin fest davon überzeugt das man ihn in jede rolle stecken könnte und er perfekt darin wäre
sidenote, aber ich kann nicht die einzige sein die bei der firmenfeier die family stories käsefrau susanne prinz erkannt hat 😭

Schwächer als die Serie, aber ein würdiger Abschluss für "Stromberg" mit ernsten Zwischentönen und zahlreichen Gastauftritten liebgewonnener Figuren. Da ist es zu verkraften, dass die Schlusspointe zwar interessant, aber etwas zu abrupt und ohne Knalleffekt daherkommt.
Schwächer als die Serie, aber ein würdiger Abschluss für "Stromberg" mit ernsten Zwischentönen und zahlreichen Gastauftritten liebgewonnener Figuren. Da ist es zu verkraften, dass die Schlusspointe zwar interessant, aber etwas zu abrupt und ohne Knalleffekt daherkommt.
