Ugh I love when a woman wins a male dominated game

there were some very creative shots and pretty decent acting but every time there was an action screen i couldn’t tell what was happening the camera was too shakey and it all just felt sped up. the practical effects were done really well tho so i can also give it that.

movies like this make me appreciate the battle royale genre of film more. there’s beautiful looking films like battle royale and ugly looking films like this. the problem is that filmmakers forget that creating violence on screen should be like poetry or a painting not some lifeless artificial excuse for blood. although i did think the gore explosions look pretty sick, the action sequences are sloppy as fuck.

along with the sloppy sequences, there are bland ass characters with little to no redemption or significant importance. especially the priest who had a loss of faith arc kinda like the exorcist but he’s just like that to be like that. usually i’m fine with characters being under fleshed but the visuals are also boring so there’s no win to be found there. and ving thames is not him.

At one point in this Battle-Royale-with-assassins direct-to-video hidden gem, Kelly Hu and Robert Carlyle are on the run, when they are cornered by a Mexican kid playing a Russian assassin named "Longshot" Tupozov (according to the end credits) who rolls up on a moped, whips out a rocket launcher, and is PROMPTLY HIT BY A BUS as he shoots the rocket, which zigs and zags all around through the air like an ACME product before BLOWING UP A GAS STATION. The way that rocket zipped through the air was one of the funniest things I have ever seen, but sadly I will never know if it was intended as such.

Film is fun and over the top, definitely worth a watch is you've ingested half a bottle of sake, which indeed I have consumed tonight.
