this movie was like a lynch movie on benadryl
rdjs accent sucked but everything else about his performance was honestly great, and his characters stance brought a theme to the movie that improved it greatly. without it, the movie would’ve been a dark fever dream with no insight, and would be as good as the crime-glorifying media that the film criticizes.
the imagery was honestly great, though i can understand how people would find it displeasing. i especially liked the sitcom style backstory segment.
the dialogue was very good, the offset camera shots were great and made the film that much more offputting.
ultimately, the controversy surrounding this film is fair, as the film has twisted and unique imagery and ridiculous moments of crude behavior that could definitely sway people away from it. for me, i really liked the editing style and the themes led to a message that was interesting to me and rarely talked about, which is that media fuels crime and vice versa. It was a solid movie
