Princess Mononoke has set the bar so high for eco-anime films, that any film trying to compete with it is setting up for failure. But Miyori's Forest does an admirable job with it.

Miyori's Forest centres around the titular protagonist (Yu Aoi), who gets chosen by the forest to be its guardian. The conflict arises when people start showing up to build a dam. So, Miyori along with her friends and the forest, try to go up against the people from the dam project.

The environmental themes of this film are clear. Don't destroy Mother Nature guys. The film however never comes close to making us feel for the characters, which was done beautifully in Princess Mononoke. Miyori's forest never shifts into third gear, making the film a generic one, while being enjoyable at the same time. It is not a bad watch by any means, just not anything special.

The character designs are beautiful. The spirits in the film could have come across as generic, but with its drawing, each spirit has its distinct design and characteristics. The voice acting is fine and nothing harmful, but I wished the film had better dialogues that would strike a chord in our hearts.
