“Do I seem alright?”
“You know I’m not in love with you right”
Not sure why this film isn’t that big or how I’ve not heard of it before, Spring is a film which is romance horror but it feels more quiet, the A24 feel hits heavy with this film as it cares more about meaning than scares
The scene that screams to me most is when they are at the beach and Evan turns to Louise and says “do I seem alright” after pouring out his issues with his family. It’s simple but it explains a lot. He doesn’t ask if he’s alright — he asks if he seems alright. The difference matters. He’s lost both his parents, but he doesn’t even fully understand how that’s affected him
At the end, Louise is supposed to transform like she has before countless of times, but she doesn’t. she chooses to stay with Evan and her body no longer needs to “reset” to survive.
The volcano in the back makes you expect destruction and another rebirth, but instead nothing occurs. That silence is the point for the first time in a long time, her life moves forward instead of starting over and their love breaks the cycle.
