I want to list five of my favorite scenes from this movie, which is so special to me:
1- Peggy and Bunny are one of my favorite movie friendships ever, and seeing them drinking together is so funny. I feel like I was there with them
2- Richard laughing and eating his dessert while Mike and Bunny were arguing
3- Bunny laughing about the machine going crazy.
4- Their Christmas party, and Peggy wearing a bow on her head
5- Bunny and Richard pretending they’re on a cruise, and their conversation between the bookshelves
For me, this movie has to be part of every Christmas week. It’s always fun to see Hepburn and Tracy together. I just love them forever

I love Adam’s Rib and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner so I was looking forward to this Spencer Tracy/Katharine Hepburn comedy. This one didn’t really do it for me. It had its moments (particularly the rooftop conversation) but it was kinda bloated and prolonged.

I love Adam’s Rib and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner so I was looking forward to this Spencer Tracy/Katharine Hepburn comedy. This one didn’t really do it for me. It had its moments (particularly the rooftop conversation) but it was kinda bloated and prolonged.

Anytime a Katharine Hepburn movie gets put on the Criterion Channel, you best bet I will watch it! I had baseline expectations for this one going in, all I knew about it was I once saw it on a list of old Hollywood films set over Christmas/New Years. That and it also had Spencer Tracy. Now this may be a controversial take, but I don't particularly care for them together. I know they were a thing IRL, but I just don't care for Spencer Tracy in general. anyways... i will move onto the actual movie:

It was great!! outside of Kate's films with Cary grant, this is probably the best I've seen. The concept about replacing people with computers feels like just as relevant a subject in 1957 as it does today, if not more so now with the rise of AI. I love seeing an independent and smart woman. But this doesn't just apply to her, as it applies to all the girls in the reference department. Like the depiction of the women in this film aged like fine wine. I don't feel like thats a common statement for women in old movies.

Overall a great watch and I'd love to come back to this one during the holidays or if I need a cute office romance!!

I enjoyed the friendship between Katharine Hepburn and Joan Blondell's characters. The Cinemascope is also lovely.
