Does everything a sequel should do, continue what works about its predecessor while also ironing out the aspects that were holding it back. The Trip to Italy does all of this extremely well, continuing the pairing of Brydon and Coogan that simply showed flashes of brilliance in The Trip and allowing them more room to be themselves that makes me really want to see more of this pair. The humor also works a lot better, even when it’s a niche reference to a British celebrity the chemistry of Coogan and Brydon still made me laugh. The drama aspects also work much better in this than the first, feeling more concrete and real than the bits and pieces of tension from the previous.
