A young woman joins the military to be part of something bigger than herself and her small-town roots. Instead, she ends up as a new guard at Guantanamo Bay, where her mission is far from black and white. Surrounded by hostile jihadists and aggressive squadmates, she strikes up an unusual friendship with one of the detainees.

This feels like it was written with the intention of being a lot smarter in its metaphors than it actually is. It’s boring. Kristen Stewart is bad. Silly me was almost intrigued during the opening because I thought she was going to develop some kind of weird Stockholm romantic relationship. That would have been a lot more interesting. Instead it’s just the same repeated scenes over and over again in circles for 2 hours. I feel like everyone collectively agrees the American military was not particularly moral after 9/11 - do I need 2 hours of “metaphor” to get that across (Iraqi man has read Harry Potter which makes him more American)??
Near the end when she reaches in to the cell to grab his hand - that was good and probably the only time I felt any emotion whatsoever. Other than that this was a slog.
