In my quest to find a new Koyaanisqatsi, I keep falling short
Structurally and visually, I like this documentary a lot - specifically how it weaves together moving and still imagery, as well as sporadic voice over.
Thematically, I don't think this film knows what it wants to be. It claims to be about "observing changes in landscapes due to industrial work and manufacturing", but that makes it sound more broad than it really is. Like other reviews have pointed out, this is really a film about the Industrialization/Urbanization of China. But focusing exclusively on China, while speaking in generalized terms about the environment and industry, makes for a slightly jumbled and incoherent (while still stunning to look at!) film
