The first one felt like watching a bunch of bozos be evil. It felt authentic and something that a bunch of psychos would do. The grainy footage and aesthetic of the entire thing and the banality of it all made it feel disturbing and real atleast for the first 30 minutes for me before it started being boring.
The sequel on the other hand just pushes everything to the 11th degree and it’s far worse for doing so. Feels like I’m watching a slapstick cartoon with “realism” filter turned on. If you watched the 1st one you’ve watched this one except it just feels too try hard to be more disturbing, more blood and gore, more torture, more vomit.
More more more and you start to doze off as the movie goes on as the one trick it has, which is the fact it’s “disturbing” wears off very quickly.
If this peaks your interest go ahead watch the first one. It’s like a rite of passage for disturbing films. Just don’t expect this to be a particular good horror film or a good film at all.
