I really wanted to like this movie more than I did unfortunately. I just wasn’t super into the muted grey color scheme and like most of the movie literally nothing happens. There’s like multiple at length shots that take up minutes of the main couple just walking, not even having a conversation or anything just walking from one point to another. There’s some interesting conversations about race, identity and the gentrification of San Francisco that are nice and topics that do leave you thinking about something but that’s about all this movie provides. It’s a small film with a low budget so like I don’t wanna be super critical but man it just drags for a bit, the performance from the guy playing Micah isn’t the best although the actress playing Joanne did a pretty great job all things considered. It’s a nice thing seeing these two grow throughout the movie, watching them go from strangers to two people that know and care for each other on some level after spending the day together, it just didn’t need to be this long with so many moments of nothing. Like do I need to see the back of Micah’s head while he pees and washes his hands for like a minute? The cinematography isn’t good enough to justify it imo so it just ends up bringing the movie down. There are some genuine good moments of intimacy where this movie shines it’s just few and far between. Theres two instances where the movie has color, one describing San Fransisco and why it’s great and another right at the end; I guess there wasn’t much melancholy while describing San Fran and in the end the melancholy was cured thus the day being the medicine for melancholy which explains the artistic decision for the grey movie and I like the concept it’s just that the movie doesn’t look very good man. Overall the movie was kinda boring at times, id even say throughout most of it it was boring but it did have its moments, I appreciate the conversations about gentrification and race throughout that challenges both main characters, I thought they had some chemistry that got better as the movie went on. I think it was an ok movie with some flaws and some interesting ideas that just make a kinda bland experience with some highlights.
