the reproduction of paranoia is blueprint. The film is never working better than when we are alone with the doctor; creeping around the rickety hospital. He has so much to lose, and you can see it all on his face. There is so much at stake for this man in every creak of a door; never has a rainy night felt longer. The tension between his fear and the silence of the hospital grips you.
The ending, however, felt a little scrambled. A few too many reveals and twists that are absurd. Everybody wants to do the twist ending but i don't think it was earned here. and also those stairs are not near high enough to warrant their reputation. Also, in my screening it was abrasively loud and screechy, i appreciated some of the sound design but my god whenever the nurses were chatting it was like a dentist drill next to my ear.
