The shittiest remake of Red Dust. While both include very problematic colonial vibes, Red Dust was bearable thanks to Jean Harlow. Ava Gardner actually lives up to Jean Harlow's performance and I actually really like Ava Gardner a lot in this. She was very charismatic and charming, full of witt and sensuality making her a perfect actress. She doesn't get enough credit, I don't doubt she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, which is very shocking for an actress like Ava Gardner. Clark is Clark, he's okay and nice. Grace Kelly is fine, that's it fine. Again I didn't like her much in this. She didn't have enough fire in her belly for me and I prefer her much more in Alfred Hitchcock's films. In this she was rather annoying. Only Ava had this film on her back. But it was fascinating to see two major actresses star with each other, given this was such a rare practice in old Hollywood.
