Annie Get Your Gun
i can usually let a lot of shit go but this is egregious. first of all, why is my goat blonde? the way this musical spits on the life and legacy of annie oakley kind of makes my blood boil. i can acknowledge that rodgers & hammerstein can write a fucking soundtrack, it's easily the best part of the whole film (barring i'm an idian too which i can't even get into). the visual aesthetics are also so beautiful and colorful with that classic americana style that i love. it still does not excuse the portrayal of native americans in this, especially sitting bull. it's really crazy doing this back to back with calamity jane which i actually did really enjoy despite its many, many flaws. something about this is just not very good or fun and i think it's because of how annie is portrayed. i also hate the choice to have her sing directly at the camera, not a fan. i am a fan of having more howard keel on my screen though, and i think that the only way to do that is to engage with more weird golden age racism (cough cough kismet). i'm team woke mob when it comes to this one.

Annie Get Your Gun
shame. this movie is riddled with racism and blatant american ignorance, their portrayal of indians is ridiculous and mirrors them. also, is this supposed to be a romance, do people sigh dreamily over this ? imagine your partner calling off the engagement because you're better than him at something and the only way to get him back is to lose against him?? this movie is a disgrace and if i could've rated it any lower, i would have. ah and the musics are all ass, even the song you came here for was a different recording and sucks terribly, it's not even funny how bad it is. ruined my day, this movie is an injure to musicals, indians, women and the watchers.

"ɪ'ᴍ ᴀɴxɪᴏᴜꜱ ᴛᴏ ꜱᴇᴇ ʜᴇʀ, ᴀɴᴅ- ʟᴇᴛ'ꜱ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴀ ᴅʀɪɴᴋ."

Though I think of Annie Get Your Gun as a classic, this musical contains plot lines I consistently asked myself if they were necessary to include. With how well known of a story this is, I wonder how many people have actually seen it- regards to how beloved the music is, but how problematic the story plays out.

"ᴍᴀʏʙᴇ ʜᴇ ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅɴ'ᴛ ᴍᴀᴋᴇ ɪᴛ.""ᴍᴀʏʙᴇ ʜᴇ ᴅɪᴅɴ'ᴛ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ."

I love a socially outcasted romantic. Annie’s just like me.
