“Jeanne dielman, 23, quai du Commerce 1080 Bruxelles” except it’s bad
Is it depressing and disturbing sure but fuck that’s about it. There’s very little to actually chew on with this film. despite it’s incredibly important subject matter this is less a critique of capitalism and the patriarchy and more of three hours of showing how this one guy’s an asshole. It’s also kind of directed like shit, poorly timed cuts, weird, unimportant scenes, and otherwise just frankly stock standard and boring camerawork and cinematography though the bar room does have a nice lighting.
Also, for fucks sake, none of the female characters were written with virtually any agency over themselves, and the few times were any actual resistance is voiced but is done incredibly han-fisted and obviously.
Idk there’s a good film in here somewhere but who gives a shit because Chantel Ackerman already made the perfect version of this in 1975.
Considering how difficult this film is to find idk maybe skip it but maybe you’ll like it at least it’s cool and obscure
Chantel Ackerman Forever
