Nobody likes self-centered realtor Oren Little, and he prefers it that way. He's deliberately mean to anyone who crosses his path and wants nothing more than to sell one final house and retire. His life turns upside-down when his estranged son drops off a granddaughter he never knew existed. Suddenly left in charge of her and with no idea how to take care of a child, he pawns the girl off on his neighbor, Leah -- but he eventually learns how to open his heart.

What a shockingly uncomfortable film from Rob Reiner. While Micheal Douglas and Diane Keaton give good performances, they're wasted on a script that doesn't know how to properly build up to these emotional beats. Orion stays unlikable throughout and him becoming a better man and father feels inauthentic which leaves the viewer wondering why Leah falls for him outside of him giving her a good job. Characters set up to be important are promptly forgotten for the next hour only to show up in the last ten minutes as if the film just now remembered them
The scene where Sarah meets her mom is my least favorite. Not only for it happening far too early in the movie, thus making the final act feel largely empty, but I found the film's treatment of her mother to be oddly mean. When Rita meets her for the first time in nearly a decade, she immediately opens her heart out to her, genuinely happy to see her daughter again. But then she collapses out of exhaustion and Orion decides to ditch her for the rest of the day with the film forgetting her therefore after. There was nothing in the scene or previously in the movie showing Rita to have been someone to not give a chance to reconnect with her daughter outside of being a former junkie. We don't even get a mention of what she's like personality wise or her current situation.
Maybe I'm too empathetic or something but as someone who has parents that don't care about me, Rita wasn't an example of that.

Ultimate boomer fantasy. Old boomer sells his home that 30x in value for “what it’s worth” to immigrant. Boomer fails to raise his son correctly, sexually assaults a woman (she’s totally into it though) and treats his granddaughter like crap. It’s all good though, he’s just a quirky old boomer who dindu nuffin wrong! He’s just a silly guy!
