First time viewing this one, another one of those I remember seeing the vhs at the video stores but never got around to it until now. I definitely see Hughes was trying to recreate the magic of Planes, Trains and Automobiles but more of a (step)father-son type this time around, and with everyone’s favorite asshole tv dad Ed O’Neill. Obviously not as good as the other movie but there definitely were some laughs and heartwarming moments you expect from a Hughes film. Rating is 3 and a half here, but I can see myself watching it for future Thanksgivings and could see the rating bumping up as well.

Has some unexpectedly profound things to say about class and charity. A little clumsy at times, but not without its charms.

I love any movie written, produced, or directed by John Hughes, the vibes are always immaculate.
