Tension: Will he go crazy? Will he find out who murdered Sloane? Will Kathy spill the beans?
Theme: Don’t mess with your mental health. The history of America’s darker past is subconsciously damaging people.
Writing: This would be a weird script to write. I definitely believed lots of these people were crazy. All the different ways they were was so creative, and how they each had to do with some American trauma. I thought the inner voice worked well to contrast the loss of voice at the end. Especially from a writer. Lots of good irony with him potentially winning the Pulitzer. I do think he put himself in bad situations he didn’t need to be in to get beat up or locked up even more. I wish I understood what the hand raising in the air was supposed to symbolize. And the guy who was a nuclear scientist reverting back to a child. The premise was super strong though I’ll say, and the scene where he beats the confession out was kinda crazy. I thought the rain scene in his head was defnitely meaningful, although I didn’t completely get it.
Acting: Wow this one would be a hard one to do as an actor. I mean, sure you could just go bonkers, but to actually have motivation behind all of that is insane. This could defnitely be a play if they wanted it to be. The Civil war player and the singer guy both especially impressed me.
Cinematography: Only other movie outside of The Wizard of Oz I’ve seen that’s had such a stark change to color. It was used only for very special moments that called back to trauma, so that was cool. Having a hard time remembering what else.
Production Design: Didn’t need anything too crazy, now that I think about it I don’t know if there was a single shot outside.
Sound: Can’t remember besides the thunder in his head.
Editing: Color montages were used exclsuively which I appreciated.
