A BLACK-AND-WHITE ODE TO LOST TIME AND THE BEAUTIFUL BOREDOM IN BETWEEN. this film shows a broken system and political issues that feel way too familiar, especially for students like us who keep demanding better education and more funding, but we’re just waiting around for change that never comes. inaction can be destructive, yeah, but it’s also understandable. sometimes we want to act, but the world is too unfair and too complicated. the scenese in hospitals, poor neighborhoods, even the university, show how uneven and unfair the system is. everyone’s surviving in different ways some through protest, some through escape, some through silence.
i love how this film use road trip as a metaphor to find the almost-famous musician but it’s really about trying to find purpose. they’re searching for meaning in a world that’s lost its meaning also this musician is a symbol of failed potential. they idolize him, but he ends up being kind of disappointing. it’s showing that the things we chase as meaningful often turn out pointless just like revolutions, heroes, or youth itself. this film’s about young people (they’re students in the middle of a strike) who should be active , but instead they’re doing nothing. they’re tired, disillusioned, aimless it's symbolizing a generation overwhelmed by chaos and unsure how to act. tha main characters are literally living in the dark (no electricity) symbolic of being in the shadows of society, unsure what to do with their lives.
this movie is soooo beautiful. like not just how it looks but how it’s put together. the characters are amazing, the settings are dynamic, the music is both gorgeously complementary and at times in sharp contrast to what's going on, and the camera work keeps changing too like every part of the film has its own vibe but somehow it all loops back together in the end, a full circle moment with the dynamicism of the settings.
rated 5 stars, also putting it in my top 10. i love how this film shows that choosing to do nothing or to be “apolitical,” is still political stance. like maybe you don’t think you’re political, but you live in a broken country, you're surrounded by injustice, and it affects you whether you speak up or not.
