we did it, mao! you’re going to be the founder of china.
cinematically the best installment of the trilogy: great contrast between depicting mao as a grounded man of the people and chiang as a westernized figure basked in opulence, amazing coloring, and thankfully no instagram face. a bit too much talking and not showing, especially in regards to key military campaigns, but i suppose that’s how war goes for those on the top.
biased as i am shanghainese, but chiang ching kuo’s anti corruption efforts in shanghai could be its own movie.
