to be honest i feel like im not allowed to like this because i unfortunately haven't watched the anime nor have i read the manga but instead i just jumped to the live action movie but even so this movie is just such a great time and it's coming of age elements are explored really well, i do plan on watching the anime soon tho. this movie was so much fun, im not over how silly the over the top acting was and it clearly wasn't meant for live action but tbh it was really refreshing seeing such fun characters and fun acting in contrast to the last movie i watched (the seventh seal) where it was very philosophical and dark. i love sports movies/tv shows so obviously i was excited for this, i had no idea this was a coming of age story tho, i just thought it was about 2 friends which one had massive passion for ping pong and the other didnt have much passion for it but continued to play for his friend, but its way way WAY more than that. the ping pong matches in this were shot so greatly imo, like the choreography is genuinely so amazing, u could see what was going on very clearly and the camera work was amazing. the pacing was also great, this movie flew in quick and fast, which was a good feeling. the story is what makes this movie tho, the main 2 characters dynamic is just fantastic and they're both amazingly written, like it's shocking HOW well written they are. the other 3 characters tho... they didn't have much screen time and i was a bit confused on what their character really meant in contrast to the main 2. i have a big feeling that when i watch the anime ill have a full understanding so i will see when i come around to watching it. i really liked the ending, it was a nice ending that shows passion beats talent.
